Preparation & joining instructions
For this hackathon we'll be working in small groups to tackle mini-challenges in the computational anlaysis of moving images. These mini-challenges offer a range technical and conceptual experimentation opportunities that will hopefully appeal to several areas of audiovisual culture and levels of expertise.
If you have a mini-challenge of your own in mind, please get in touch! The key points to keep in mind if you want to propose a mini-challenge are: it needs to be related to audiovisual culture, needs to be feasible to try out in the time we have, and you will need to share the materials with us in advance. Please note that we will not be able to do much data pre-processing on the day. Experiments that are conceptually ambitious and lightweight in data processing are probably more suitable for this event. To propose a mini-challenge make sure you contact us by 6 June.
Prerequisites
- Bring your own laptop (with root privileges if possible). We will not provide computers to participants.
- Basic familiarity with using a command shell will be very useful but not essential.
- Familiairty with the Python programming language is desirable but not essential.
- Expertise in the theory, history and analysis of moving images is desirable.
